    Projects worked at labs: First assignment at the Central Institute for the Deaf was LINC programming including interfacing a LINC to a disk drive for storing and loading programs. Subsequently constructed and tested RAP systems that were used to support speech and hearing research.

    Influence on career: My experience as a research assistant at the Central Institute for the Deaf directly contributed to successfully establishing SBC's Speech and Language Technology Laboratory focused on developing applications for spoken language processing. The lab was instrumental in early services for voice control of telephones, voice biometrics, Directory Assistance automation, and voice-activated customer care services.
